Galeon's interface should be familiar to anyone who has used any popular Web browser like Netscape or Mozilla. There is a menubar at the top of the window, a main toolbar below it, and a statusbar at the bottom of the window. There may also be other toolbars, created by the user for often used bookmarks, as described in the section called Bookmarks Toolbars in the chapter called Using Galeon Bookmarks>.
Creates a new browser window and loads the home page into it. Instructions for setting the home page are described in the section called Homepage in the chapter called Setting Galeon Preferences>.
Creates a new notebook tab in the current browser window and loads the home page into it.
Opens a local file. A file selector window is opened, allowing you to browse through the filesystem for the file you'd like to open.
Opens a dialog with an entry field that you can type a new URL into.
Saves a copy of the current page to disk. A dialog window is opened allowing you to choose the path and filename you'd like to use.
Not yet implemented.
If multiple windows are open, closes the current window. If only one browser window is open, exits the program.
Saves a record of the sites you are currently viewing and exits. The next time you run Galeon, your session will be restored automatically for you — all the windows you have open will be reopened, and their contents will be reloaded.
Closes all open browser windows and exits the program.
Opens a new window and displays the source code for the currently loaded page.
When this option is selected, all subsequent page loads will display the source code of the page instead of rendering the content.
Toggles the display of the menubar.
Toggles the display of the toolbar(s).
Toggles the display of the statusbar.
Toggles full screen mode, which is described in more detail in the section called Full Screen Mode>.
Increases the size of the fonts on the page.
Decreases the size of the fonts on the page.
Sets the character set used to display the page, bypassing the Mozilla autodetection.
The settings menu offers quick access to some commonly used settings.
Images in a page can be set to load Always, From current server only, or Never. If From current server only is selected, only images that originate from the same place as the current page will be loaded.
Images can also be controlled on a per-site basis. Allow images from this site will allow the currently loaded site to display images, while Block images from this site will prevent the currently loaded site from displaying any images. To view the list of sites with explicitly set permissions, select View stored sites...
Animated images in a page can be set to loop Always, Once through, or Never. Always means animated images will loop continuously. Once through means the animated image will loop once and stop. Never means the animated image will not be animated - only the first frame of the sequence will be displayed.
Open the cookie manager by selecting Cookie manager... .
Cookie permissions can be set on a per-site basis. Allow cookies from this site allows the currently loaded site to store cookies on your computer. Block cookies from this site will prevent the currently loaded site from storing any cookies on your computer. Consult the chapter called Cookie Manager> for more information on using the cookie manager.
Overrides the fonts that the page specifies, instead using the user-selected default fonts.
Overrides the colors that the page specifies, instead using the user-selected default colors.
Allows Java code to be executed. This has an effect only if a Java plugin has been installed. Consult the plugins section for more information.
Allows JavaScript code to be executed.
Allows the use of a proxy server.
Makes Galeon attempt to determine the type of the page or file being loaded and act appropriately.
Opens the preferences dialog, where all of Galeon's settings can be viewed and/or modified.
Adds a bookmark for the currently loaded URL to one of your bookmarks folders, possibly also opening a dialog box allowing you to name the bookmark. This option is described in the section called Bookmarks in the chapter called Setting Galeon Preferences>.
Opens the bookmarks editor.
Adds a bookmark for the currently loaded URL to the temporary bookmarks.
Displays the temporary bookmarks window.
Imports Netscape or Mozilla bookmarks into Galeon, or exports Galeon's bookmarks into Netscape or Mozilla.
The first five items in this menu are simply copies of the five buttons on the main toolbar, which are described in the section called The Main Toolbar>.
Shows the history dialog, which contains a list of all previously visited locations. You can learn more about how to change settings related to this dialog in the section called History in the chapter called Setting Galeon Preferences>.
Displays this manual.
Displays a window containing information about Galeon.
